German international Anton Stach appears to have sustained a significant injury during his team Leeds United’s recent match.
The midfielder was involved in a collision with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba in the 71st minute of Saturday’s game. Images from the match showed Stach’s foot was bleeding profusely, and his knee also seemed to be affected. The 27-year-old had to be stretchered off the field, with Joel Piroe coming on as his replacement.
While a definitive diagnosis has not yet been released, Stach’s injury is likely to diminish his chances of being selected for the German national team’s World Cup squad. Head coach Julian Nagelsmann is set to announce his squad this coming Thursday.
Stach Nominated for Recent National Team Matches
Stach had previously been called up by Nagelsmann for the March international fixtures against Switzerland and Ghana. Despite only playing ten minutes in those matches, he was considered a strong contender for a World Cup spot.
To date, Stach has earned three caps for Germany. He has been having a strong season for Leeds, contributing eight goal involvements (five goals, three assists) in 29 Premier League appearances.
