Franz Wagner Plays Key Role as Orlando Magic Regain NBA Playoff Lead

Franz Wagner and his Orlando Magic have regained the lead in their first-round NBA playoff series.

The Florida-based basketball franchise secured a 113-105 victory at home against the Detroit Pistons on Saturday night. This win gives the Magic a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-seven series.

World and European Champion Franz Wagner contributed 17 points in 33 minutes of play. His older brother, Moritz, did not play. Tristan da Silva saw eight minutes on the court, scoring no points.

The Magic’s top scorers were guard Desmond Bane and 2022 draft’s number one pick Paolo Banchero, both with 25 points.

Detroit, the Eastern Conference regular-season champion, was trailing by 17 points with eight minutes remaining in the game. Pistons star player Cade Cunningham (27 points) turned the game around with twelve points in the final quarter, giving the Pistons a three-minute lead. Franz Wagner then hit two shots to put the Magic back in front before Paolo Banchero sealed the victory with a three-pointer for the final 113-105 score.

Game four will take place again in Orlando on Tuesday night (02:00 CEST).
