The prominent Turkish football club Fenerbahce has dismissed its coach, Domenico Tedesco, after a crushing defeat in the Istanbul derby against Galatasaray. The second-placed team in the Turkish league announced the decision on Monday evening via social media.
Tedesco, 40, who previously coached in the Bundesliga for Schalke 04 (2017-2019) and RB Leipzig (2021-2022), took over the Fenerbahce bench in early September, succeeding Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho.
Following Fenerbahce’s 0-3 loss to rivals Galatasaray on Sunday – a team that has finished as runners-up in the Süper Lig for the past four seasons – the championship title is now only mathematically achievable for Fenerbahce this season. With three league games remaining, the club trails record champions Galatasaray by seven points.
In addition to Tedesco, the club is also parting ways with Sporting Director Devin Özek and Coordinator Berke Celebi, Fenerbahce further stated.
The interim successor to Tedesco for the remaining matches of the season will be the former assistant coach, Zeki Murat Göle.
