FC Bayern Munich has reportedly intensified its efforts in the pursuit of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. According to the Daily Mail, the German record champions are now in communication with Newcastle and have conducted preliminary discussions regarding a transfer for the versatile attacking player.
However, the publication indicates that no intensive negotiations have taken place yet. The initial focus is likely on gauging Newcastle’s asking price for Gordon, which is expected to be substantial. Recent reports suggest that Newcastle will only consider offers starting from €86 million, despite acknowledging Gordon’s desire for a new challenge and his interest in a move to FC Bayern.
Harry Kane Reportedly Encouraging Anthony Gordon to Join FC Bayern
The development of Michael Olise, who left the Premier League for Munich and has since become a world-class player, is said to be a factor in Gordon’s consideration of a move to FC Bayern. Furthermore, as reported by Sport Bild, compatriot and national team captain Harry Kane has reportedly reached out to Gordon to persuade him to join the Bavarian club. Gordon’s agent, Gordon Stipic-Wipfler, has also reportedly visited Munich in recent weeks to negotiate potential contract terms with club officials.
Sky has reported on a preliminary contract draft that allegedly includes financial details, salary, and duration. If the transfer materializes, Gordon would likely sign a five-year deal with the record champions.
However, a significant hurdle remains due to Newcastle’s reported transfer fee demands. Adding to the complexity, FC Barcelona has also reportedly entered the race for Gordon. According to Sport and RAC1, Gordon’s agent has already met with Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco.
FC Bayern Reportedly Favored Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig Initially
FC Bayern is reportedly also exploring more affordable alternatives, especially considering Gordon’s primary positions are currently well-covered by the outstanding performances of Luis Diaz on the left wing and Harry Kane’s established role. Despite this, Sky reported in early April that Gordon is Bayern’s «absolute desired player» due to his ability to play in two to three positions, thereby addressing several squad needs at a top level.
Meanwhile, The Athletic claimed that Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig was Bayern’s preferred number one transfer target, but his acquisition was projected to exceed €100 million, a figure considered too high for FC Bayern.
