FC Bayern München is reportedly open to a swap deal to secure the transfer of their ‘dream player,’ Anthony Gordon.
According to information from Bild, goalkeeper Alexander Nübel could be included in a potential deal for Gordon, moving to Newcastle United in return.
Nübel’s loan spell at VfB Stuttgart concludes on June 30th. It is already confirmed that he has no future at either Stuttgart or the German record champions. «We had discussions with his management, and Alex is also aware of our plans,» stated FCB Sporting Director Christoph Freund after Bayern’s final Bundesliga match against 1. FC Köln, referring to their planned goalkeeping trio of Neuer, his representative Jonas Urbig, and Sven Ulreich. «We are going into the next season with this goalkeeping trio; that is the plan.»
Meanwhile, Gordon’s club, Newcastle United, is reportedly searching for a new goalkeeper. Sky has reported that Newcastle has shown interest in Robin Risser of RC Lens, with a potential price tag of 30 to 40 million Euros.
In comparison, Nübel would be significantly more affordable. Newcastle would likely only need to moderate their transfer fee demand for Gordon and compromise with Bayern. It is understood that Newcastle is requesting over 80 million Euros for the 25-year-old.
Could Alexander Nübel Join Newcastle United?
A decision regarding Nübel’s future at Bayern might be postponed until late summer. There have reportedly been no concrete discussions with potential new employers yet, and the 29-year-old is also involved with the German national team in the World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
Furthermore, it is uncertain whether Nübel would even agree to a move to the Magpies. According to Bild, the goalkeeper is currently leaning towards other clubs in England and Italy and is not particularly keen on a transfer to Newcastle.
Gordon, on the other hand, is strongly linked with a move to FC Bayern München. The English international himself is said to have already reached an agreement with the German record champions for a transfer next season, but the two clubs remain far apart in negotiations.
«We are in agreement that we will sign an attacking player if it is financially feasible,» said Bayern’s Sporting Director Max Eberl on Friday before the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin against VfB Stuttgart at a Bild event. «We have had a very good conversation and hope to make progress.» While not explicitly naming Gordon, this statement was likely referring to him.
