FC Bayern has reached the DFB-Pokal final for the first time since 2020. The Munich team won the semi-final away with a 2-0 victory against Bayer Leverkusen. Here are the individual player ratings for the FCB professionals.
After securing the championship title against VfB Stuttgart with a B-team on Sunday, coach Vincent Kompany fielded his strongest starting eleven against Leverkusen as expected. Harry Kane put FC Bayern ahead (22nd minute), and Luis Diaz extended the lead shortly before the end (90’+3).
In the Berlin final on May 23rd, FC Bayern will face the winner of the Baden-Württemberg duel between VfB Stuttgart and SC Freiburg.
Bayer Leverkusen — FC Bayern Player Ratings: Manuel Neuer
He was not challenged for a long time before Neuer made an outstanding save from a shot by Nathan Talla (52nd). He rightly celebrated the save like a goal. In the 75th minute, he spectacularly thwarted a potential counter-attack near the halfway line. Rating: 2.5.
Bayer Leverkusen — FC Bayern Player Ratings: Josip Stanisic
One of only four players who remained from the Stuttgart starting lineup. In the 56th minute, Stanisic appeared dangerously in the Leverkusen penalty area. Ernest Poku fouled him on the ankle during his shot attempt. Stanisic continued playing after a break for treatment. Rating: 3.
Bayer Leverkusen — FC Bayern Player Ratings: Dayot Upamecano
A very strong performance from Upamecano! Extremely composed when challenging for the ball, for example, with a tackle against Nathan Tella in the middle of the first half. Upamecano also regularly appeared deep in the opponent’s half. He shot over after a corner kick routine in the fifth minute, and he won the ball in the build-up to the first goal. Rating: 1.5.
Bayer Leverkusen — FC Bayern Player Ratings: Jonathan Tah
Very attentive at his former stomping ground. Tah repeatedly anticipated play smartly. Rating: 2.5.
Bayer Leverkusen — FC Bayern Player Ratings: Konrad Laimer
He repeatedly moved into the center and served as a popular passing option there. Very aggressive in tackles, Laimer was fouled a total of five times. Rating: 3.
Bayer Leverkusen — FC Bayern Player Ratings: Joshua Kimmich
He had many touches in the midfield center. However, Kimmich’s numerous chip and through balls into the penalty area were mostly too inaccurate. Rating: 3.
Bayer Leverkusen — FC Bayern Player Ratings: Aleksandar Pavlovic
Shortly before halftime, he slid to take down Ibrahim Maza on a counter-attack and received a yellow card for it. In the middle of the second half, Pavlovic grabbed Maza’s face but only received a warning this time. Kompany substituted him off shortly after as a precaution. Rating: 3.5.
Bayer Leverkusen — FC Bayern Player Ratings: Michael Olise
In his 100th competitive appearance for FC Bayern, Olise exuded his usual magic. He initiated Kane’s opening goal with a brilliant backheel pass to Musiala. At times, he was a bit too provocative; shortly before halftime, Olise had a heated scuffle with Exequiel Palacios. Rating: 2.
Bayer Leverkusen — FC Bayern Player Ratings: Jamal Musiala
After Serge Gnabry’s injury, Musiala has regained his starting spot in big games and is getting closer to his top form. Against Leverkusen, he provided many creative touches with his dribbling and passing. Musiala assisted Kane’s opening goal, marking his fifth scorer point in the last four games. He almost scored a goal himself in the 49th minute, but Robert Andrich cleared it just before the line. Rating: 2.
Bayer Leverkusen — FC Bayern Player Ratings: Luis Diaz
In the 16th minute, Diaz tested Leverkusen goalkeeper Mark Flekken with a good shot. He smartly let Musiala’s cross for Kane’s opener go through. In added time, he scored the final 2-0 goal after a VAR intervention. Rating: 2.
Bayer Leverkusen — FC Bayern Player Ratings: Harry Kane
In the early stages, Kane demanded a penalty, but didn’t get it — and instead scored the opening goal from open play. Kane then missed several good chances for further goals. Rating: 2.
Bayer Leverkusen — FC Bayern Player Ratings: Substitutes
Leon Goretzka: Replaced Pavlovic in the 74th minute, who was at risk of a yellow-red card. After a poor shot in the 80th minute, he assisted Diaz’s second goal. No rating.
Alphonso Davies: Also came on in the 74th minute for Laimer and slotted in at left-back. Shortly after, he made a strong tackle to stop Maza on a counter-attacking chance. No rating.
Min-Jae Kim: Substituted on for Musiala in the 84th minute. No rating.
