FC Bayern: Felipe Chavez kehrt nach Leihgabe nach Köln zurück, nachdem er wenig Spielzeit hatte

Felipe Chavez, the 19-year-old midfielder on loan from FC Bayern Munich to 1. FC Köln, is reportedly set to return to his parent club. According to Sky, Köln is unlikely to exercise their purchase option for the young talent, paving the way for his return to Bayern Munich.

Chavez joined Köln on loan on the final day of the winter transfer window. Despite initial reports in March from the Abendzeitung suggesting Köln planned to make his move permanent, the midfielder has seen very limited game time. While Köln’s sporting director Thomas Kessler had indicated a plan to gradually integrate Chavez into the Bundesliga, his current situation suggests otherwise.

Even if Köln were to have met the suspected transfer fee, which was estimated to be in the mid-single-digit million range, Bayern Munich reportedly secured a buy-back option for Chavez in 2027 and 2028, highlighting their belief in his potential.

Limited Appearances in Munich and Köln for Chavez

Unlike in some other loan situations, Bayern Munich would not need to exercise any special rights to bring Chavez back, as his current loan spell appears to be ending without a permanent transfer. However, the Peruvian international has struggled to gain consistent playing time, both at Bayern and in Köln’s relegation battle.

Even after a coaching change at Köln, with Rene Wagner taking over, Chavez continued to be sparingly used. He featured in a total of seven matches for Köln, accumulating only 96 minutes of playing time. His longest and final appearance came on matchday 32, where he played 28 minutes in central midfield during a 2-2 draw against Union Berlin.

Chavez made his Bundesliga debut for Bayern Munich under Vincent Kompany in January, appearing for a total of twelve minutes across two games against VfL Wolfsburg and FC Augsburg.

The left-footed player is still awaiting his first goal or assist in the German top flight. His current contract with Bayern Munich runs until 2027.
