FC Barcelona appears to be making swift moves in the transfer market shortly after the end of the season. Could a spectacular triple signing be on the horizon?
The deal for Anthony Gordon and Newcastle United, reportedly valued at a total package of 80 million Euros, is said to be nearing completion, with the attacking player having already undergone his medical examination.
Things could also move quickly in the coming days regarding Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid. According to Fabrizio Romano, Alvarez has already requested a release from Atletico, and Barcelona has submitted an official offer of 100 million Euros.
Furthermore, the Catalan club is reportedly on the verge of an agreement for a third star player. It was rumored as early as January that Bernardo Silva was keen on a move to Barcelona. The 31-year-old’s contract with Manchester City expires on June 30th. In April, the midfielder announced his departure after nine years, 460 appearances, 76 goals, and 77 assists.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Barcelona is making significant strides in negotiations with Silva, and the player is reportedly willing to accept a substantial salary reduction to join the Catalan side.
Silva’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is said to have proactively approached Barcelona in the winter with his client’s desire to move. Silva holds a strong affection for Barcelona, greatly admires the club, and, according to Sport, has personal ties to the Catalan capital.
FC Barcelona may be changing its stance on Bernardo Silva
At that time, however, Barcelona apparently felt well-covered in midfield and preferred to focus on their own talents, such as Marc Casado or Marc Bernal, rather than pursuing Silva. However, a departure may now be on the cards for Casado, potentially becoming a bargaining chip for the Catalans in their pursuit of Alvarez.
Atletico reportedly expressed interest in Casado back in January, and it’s possible the 22-year-old could be included as a makeweight in the Alvarez transfer.
