Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt has ended its collaboration with head coach Albert Riera after a mere three and a half months.
The club announced this decision one day after their final match of the season against VfB Stuttgart, which ended in a 2-2 draw. The separation was already considered likely, as Riera lacked support within the club’s environment, and Eintracht missed out on qualifying for European competition for the first time in six years.
«After intensive discussions, we have jointly decided to end our collaboration with immediate effect,» stated Sporting Director Markus Krösche, who had previously avoided making a firm commitment to the Spaniard. Riera had succeeded Dino Toppmöller on February 1st.
Riera: ‘Mutually Agreed to End Collaboration’
Krösche acknowledged that Riera and his team «provided valuable impetus through their meticulous work.» He added, «At the same time, after an open and honest analysis of the sporting development, we have come to the conclusion that we want to pursue a different path for the upcoming season.»
«The club and I have mutually agreed to end our collaboration,» Riera stated. «As a coach, I take responsibility for the sporting results, and my sole focus during this time was on improving the team and making it successful.»
