Didier Deschamps has commented on the transfer rumors surrounding Michael Olise and FC Bayern Munich.
In an interview with the Spanish sports newspaper Marca, the French national coach addressed the speculation regarding the 24-year-old attacking player of the German record champions.
In recent days, Olise has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, among other clubs. In the turbulent presidential election campaign of Los Blancos, incumbent Florentino Perez and challenger Enrique Riquelme are vying for the favor of the members with sometimes wild transfer promises.
Olise is said to play a role in this. Perez announced in an interview last Thursday that after a potential election victory, he would immediately make a €150 million offer for a top star. According to media reports, this refers to the offensive player from Munich.
Deschamps expressed that he was not too surprised by the strong performances of Olise last season, leading to him being on the radar of Real Madrid. «I can imagine that he also receives offers from other clubs. I am not worried that he could not perform the same at other clubs as he does at FC Bayern or for the French national team,» said the 57-year-old.
Deschamps on Olise’s Future: «There is no right or wrong choice»
Olise is indeed «a shining star and one of the best players in the world,» Deschamps further elaborated. «The media presence is not really his thing, as they say. But what counts is what happens on the pitch; off the pitch, he has his own life, but he has had a great rise.»
However, the national coach of the Equipe Tricolore did not want to offer any advice regarding his future plans. «He will know very well whether he stays at FC Bayern Munich or if he needs a change of scenery. There is no right or wrong choice,» Deschamps stated. «If I were in Coman’s or the Bayern President’s position, I would naturally find it very, very good to have him in the team and if he stayed at FC Bayern.»
Olise is still under contract with FC Bayern Munich until 2029. In the past, the management of the German record champions had tirelessly emphasized that the 24-year-old is not for sale in the upcoming transfer period.
