BVB Faces Transfer Shock: Will Top Target’s Move Collapse?

Joane Gadou has been identified as a prime target for Borussia Dortmund’s defense. While a transfer appeared to be on the verge of completion, new demands from RB Salzburg might now jeopardize the deal.

According to a report from «Bild,» the Austrian Bundesliga club is now seeking significantly more than the €20 million previously rumored in the media as the transfer fee.

Salzburg is reportedly aiming for a base fee of around €25 million, plus additional bonuses ranging from €4 to €6 million for the 19-year-old center-back. This could potentially push the total transfer cost beyond the €30 million mark.

However, negotiations between the two clubs are said to be ongoing. Dortmund, under the guidance of Sporting Director Lars Ricken and Technical Director Ole Book, is reportedly still attempting to negotiate down the demanded sum to make Gadou a more affordable option overall.

Previously, both «kicker» and «Sky» had reported that the transfer was close to being finalized. It was also reported that Dortmund had already agreed on a long-term contract with Gadou, and discussions between the clubs were nearing completion.

Gadou Has Been on BVB’s Radar for Some Time

The 1.95m tall Gadou moved to Austria from Paris Saint-Germain’s academy in 2024. This season, the French youth international has featured in 33 competitive matches for Salzburg, gaining valuable international experience in the Europa League.

In Dortmund, the 19-year-old is intended to bolster a defense that is short on personnel. Due to Niklas Süle’s career-ending situation, Emre Can’s lengthy injury, and the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Nico Schlotterbeck’s future, BVB is in urgent need of reinforcements in the central defensive positions.

Dortmund’s interest in Gadou is understood to have existed for some time. Sebastian Kehl, Book’s predecessor at BVB, was also reportedly keeping an eye on the young talent in the spring.
