Bayern Munich Goalkeeper Daniel Peretz Nearing Permanent Move to Southampton

FC Bayern Munich appears to be on the verge of a permanent departure for goalkeeper Daniel Peretz, according to reports from the Daily Echo in England.

Southampton, the English club where the Israeli international is currently on loan, is said to be in advanced negotiations with the German record champions to secure Peretz’s permanent signing. Officials from the south coast club are reportedly hoping to finalize the deal within this week.

Peretz himself is keen to stay with Southampton and help them achieve promotion to the Premier League, despite also having offers from other clubs.

Peretz joined Southampton on loan in the winter, after a previous loan spell at Hamburger SV, to gain playing time. At Bayern, the 25-year-old, who was signed from Maccabi Tel Aviv for over five million euros in the summer of 2023, has no clear sporting future behind first-choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and his deputies Jonas Urbig and Sven Ulreich.

In contrast, he has thrived at Southampton, becoming a fan favorite and delivering consistently impressive performances.

Peretz Kept Nine Clean Sheets for Southampton

The twelve-time Israeli international has made 26 appearances for Southampton so far. He has kept nine clean sheets, conceding 24 goals. His contract in Munich is valid until 2028.

Peretz’s current club has made headlines recently, causing significant stir in English football. The dream of FC Southampton and their German coach Tonda Eckert of returning to the Premier League has dramatically collapsed.

Spying Scandal Shakes FC Southampton

The Saints have been excluded from the promotion playoff final against Hull City by the English Football League due to a spying scandal. Additionally, the club has been penalized with a four-point deduction for the upcoming second-division season.

The background to this is that in early May, employees of FC Middlesbrough caught a young man secretly filming their training session. He was identified as an intern from FC Southampton who was spying on their playoff opponent in the race for Premier League promotion under instruction from above.

Middlesbrough filed a complaint with the EFL, which subsequently opened proceedings on May 13. This led to Southampton’s exclusion from the competition on May 19. An appeal hearing the following day ended with the rejection of Peretz’s club’s objection.
