Barcelona, Like Bayern, Eyes £85m Winger

FC Barcelona is reportedly showing interest in Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon, mirroring the interest of FC Bayern, where the Englishman is also considered a top candidate for a summer winger reinforcement.

According to radio station RAC1, Gordon has come into the Catalans’ sights this season with his performances, particularly in the Champions League.

Barca’s Sporting Director Deco’s priority is to sign a versatile winger this summer to relieve Raphinha and allow the Brazilian breaks. Raphinha is currently the only top option on the left attacking flank for coach Hansi Flick’s team. However, due to two thigh injuries, he has missed numerous games this season and has only made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Blaugrana.

Barcelona’s biggest hurdle with Anthony Gordon is likely the price: Newcastle is reportedly asking for a transfer fee of 85 million euros for the 25-year-old. This figure was also mentioned to FC Bayern Munich, who have also been extensively pursuing the Englishman.

The German record champions are also looking for a strong winger to provide a serious alternative on the left offensive side for Luis Diaz. However, much like Barcelona, Bayern is likely unwilling to meet Newcastle’s asking price. The Bavarians reportedly want to first reach a personal agreement with Gordon, which would then put them in a stronger position to negotiate the transfer fee.

Newcastle Could Be Forced to Sell Gordon

Due to Financial Fair Play regulations, Newcastle might be compelled to sell a star player this summer following significant investments in previous years. Gordon could fetch the club the largest sum, but speculation also surrounds a swift departure of Nick Woltemade, who is no longer a first choice under manager Eddie Howe.

Currently sitting 13th in the Premier League, the Magpies are set to miss out on international competition qualification this season, which will lead to considerably lower revenues.

Anthony Gordon’s Stats for the 2025/26 Season:

Games: 46
Minutes Played: 2869
Goals: 17
Assists: 5
