Arsenal defeats Burnley thanks to Kai Havertz
Kai Havertz is fueling FC Arsenal’s dream of their first English championship since 2004 more than ever. The Gunners secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory (1-0) against already relegated FC Burnley on Monday evening, thanks to a goal from the German international striker, putting them in a strong position to be crowned champions.
It could all be decided as early as late Tuesday evening: if the chasing pack, Manchester City, does not win against AFC Bournemouth (8:30 PM), then Arsenal will mathematically be uncatchable for the Premier League title with one game still to play.
Havertz (37th minute) scored the winning goal with a header against Burnley, a team confirmed for relegation and featuring German goalkeeper Max Weiß. With a game in hand, the North Londoners now hold a five-point lead over City. On the final matchday, Mikel Arteta’s team will visit Crystal Palace on Sunday (5:00 PM), while City will simultaneously host Aston Villa.
Arsenal dominated the match against Burnley from the start, though they appeared nervous initially. Towards the end of the first half, Havertz was perfectly positioned after a corner from Bukayo Saka. The hosts remained in control of the game after the break.
In the 67th minute, Havertz was fortunate not to be sent off with a red card – the 26-year-old caught opponent Lesley Ugochukwu on the calf from behind, but despite a VAR check, it remained a yellow. Arsenal continued to push for a second goal, while Burnley defended resolutely.
