Anthony Gordon Chooses Barcelona Over Bayern Munich

FC Barcelona has won the race for Anthony Gordon, a player reportedly also courted by Bayern Munich. The Spanish champions announced the signing of the English attacking player on Friday evening.

The Catalans will pay Newcastle United €80 million for the 25-year-old, who has signed a five-year contract until June 30, 2031.

English media had reported an agreement between Gordon and FC Bayern just days ago. However, Barcelona apparently managed to persuade Gordon during negotiations in London through a ‘lightning maneuver’ by Sporting Director Deco. According to the Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo, Deco convinced the English World Cup participant of the sporting prospects under coach Hansi Flick and at Barca.

For Anthony Gordon, ‘a Childhood Dream Comes True’

Gordon himself stated at his introductory press conference: «As soon as I knew that Barca wanted me, it was a no-brainer for me that I wanted to come here.»

He clarified that it is «a childhood dream coming true.» He explained that he had wanted to play for the Blaugrana since he was three years old, calling «Barca the biggest club on the planet.»
