Antonio Zappi, president of the Italian Referees Association (AIA), addressed the media during a press conference at the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) concerning potential appointments within the organization, specifically mentioning Daniele Orsato. Zappi stated, “Regarding the possibility of Orsato becoming the CAN C (Serie C Referees) designator, the official appointments for national technical bodies are scheduled for July 4th. However, it`s clear that assessments and discussions are already taking place beforehand. Orsato has made himself available for the CAN C role, and we are currently evaluating how best to proceed to ensure the highest quality training.”

Zappi also highlighted upcoming structural changes, explaining, “Furthermore, with the implementation of new regulations, we are formalizing the creation of a technical director position. This individual will serve as a crucial support to the association`s governing body and will play a key role in identifying and selecting the most qualified managers, coaches, and referees.”

Present alongside Zappi was Marco Brunelli, the general secretary of the FIGC. Brunelli provided an update on technological advancements in Italian football, noting, “The upcoming season will introduce a series of experimental initiatives. We anticipate being the first country globally where all professional matches, which includes both Serie C and the Women`s Serie A, will incorporate some form of video assisted refereeing. While FIFA`s official confirmation is pending, we are actively preparing for this, as it represents a significant opportunity for the sport.”
