Katar’s midfielder Assim Madibo (29) has received a five-game ban for a serious foul on Canada’s Ismael Kone, as announced by FIFA’s disciplinary committee. Kone suffered a broken leg from the incident during Qatar’s 0-6 loss, and Madibo was shown a red card in the 54th minute.
In the days following Kone’s injury, Madibo visited him in the hospital. The Qatari Football Association highlighted this gesture, stating it reflects «the spirit of fair play and the strong relationships on and off the field.»
Qatar is set to play their final group stage match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday evening. If Qatar advances to the final, Madibo would be eligible to play again for the first time in that match.
