The recent match between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille was notable not for the game itself, but for the events in the stands. Paris Saint-Germain`s ultras displayed banners in the Virage Auteuil section insulting Adrien Rabiot, his mother, and his deceased father. Following widespread media attention, the LFP Disciplinary Committee sanctioned PSG with a partial closure of the Virage Auteuil stand at the Parc des Princes for one game. This penalty will be enforced when the French champions play Le Havre on April 19th. In response to the escalating issue of insults directed at players and their families in stadiums, Véronique Rabiot launched a petition, which unfortunately has not gained significant traction.
Faced with a perceived lack of support from politicians and even Vincent Labrune, Véronique Rabiot initiated her own petition to address verbal abuse in stadiums. Speaking on RMC`s morning show, Adrien Rabiot`s mother and agent voiced her astonishment at the limited support her initiative has received. Currently, the petition has not exceeded 6,000 signatures.
During her interview with Apolline de Malherbe, Véronique Rabiot expressed her surprise at the low number of signatures. She stated, “I am very, very surprised. Because… in a stadium there are 60,000 or 70,000 people, so I thought the topic would be of greater interest.”
She further lamented the lack of broader support, saying, “I am quite surprised that there are not more signatories, because it is truly disturbing to witness this type of situation. And it`s not just about me. As I mentioned, there are genuinely people who no longer wish to attend stadiums with their children.” Despite this incident and the partial stadium closure, it is unlikely to significantly impact Paris Saint-Germain, who are widely expected to secure the French league title regardless.
