Vanoli: “I Didn’t Understand Why Masina’s Goal Was Disallowed”

Torino coach Paolo Vanoli shared his post-match reflections following the team`s loss to Inter. He stated that defeat naturally brings regret, noting that this match felt different from the first half played against Venezia. Vanoli admitted his side struggled to find effective tactics to press Inter high up the field, specifically mentioning that Federico Dimarco (misidentified as Zalewski in the original) posed difficulties and they had trouble figuring out how to contain him.

He highlighted what he called “naivety” regarding the first goal conceded, pointing out that Gineitis allowed the opponent excessive space. Despite this, Vanoli felt the team eventually found a better defensive structure. He mentioned an opportunity for Adams, suggesting it could have potentially brought them back into the game, and praised Yann Sommer (misidentified as Martinez) for making a significant save.

Discussing the second half, Vanoli revealed he had urged his players to show courage. He accepted that leaving space open was a calculated risk he chose to take. He expressed strong belief that Masina`s disallowed goal should have stood and stated his confusion about the decision to annul it. He also referenced two subsequent scoring chances created by Vlasic.

Vanoli emphasized the need for the team to be more balanced to successfully win second balls, acknowledging that Inter was able to launch dangerous counter-attacks at times. He credited Vanja Milinković-Savić for making crucial saves that kept Torino in contention. Ultimately, despite the tactical challenges and the outcome, Vanoli concluded by stating that the team displayed the desired spirit.
