UEFA will hold a minute of silence before upcoming European club competition semifinals to honor the memory of Pope Francis. The tribute will take place before this week`s Youth League and Women`s Champions League semifinals, as well as the men`s club competition semifinals scheduled from April 29th to May 1st. UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin previously offered condolences after the Pope`s death last Monday, stating, “Pope Francis served as a symbol of hope for humanity during these periods of conflict and challenge.”

“The world has lost that tireless and powerful voice,” Čeferin added, “which consistently advocated for the poor, the humble, and the vulnerable, demanding respect, acceptance, and equality, and imploring for a peace that often seemed unattainable but was always longed for by people everywhere.”
