Steven Gerrard Recommends Michael Olise to Liverpool as Salah Replacement – Bayern Rules Out Transfer

Michael Olise has developed into an outstanding offensive player at FC Bayern Munich, making him a coveted target for other top clubs.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard views Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise as the ideal successor for Mohamed Salah, who is set to leave FC Liverpool at the end of the season. Gerrard stated that there are very few players who could directly replace Salah, and Olise is one of them. However, the former Reds captain expressed doubts about the winger’s availability, believing Bayern would be unlikely to part with him.

Olise is under contract in Munich until 2029, making a summer transfer for one of their key players highly improbable. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge of Bayern’s supervisory board dismissed the transfer rumors surrounding Olise, who is also linked with Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, with a smile: «He still has three years on his contract – there’s nothing more to say about it. People come to the stadium for players like him.» Rummenigge thus clearly ruled out an Olise departure. Reports suggesting Liverpool would be willing to pay 200 million euros for Olise were also brushed aside by Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl, who emphasized that the club gives no thought to such a transfer.

A Hopeless Endeavor for Liverpool? The Reds Urgently Need a Salah Replacement

The French international, who arrived from Crystal Palace in 2024 for a transfer fee of 53 million euros, has become indispensable at Bayern. In the current season, the 24-year-old Olise has been directly involved in 44 goals, scoring 16 himself and assisting 28 others.

Olise is thus even more appealing to global top clubs like Liverpool, especially as the Reds must replace their club icon Salah this summer. The Egyptian announced at the end of March that he would be leaving the reigning English champions prematurely at the end of the season, despite a contract valid until 2027.

Since 2017, Salah has been a crucial factor in Liverpool’s success, scoring an impressive 255 goals in 436 appearances for the Reds. His next career move from summer onwards is still uncertain, with recent rumors circulating about interest from Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

Gerrard is confident that Liverpool’s scouting department will explore several options and that it doesn’t necessarily have to be a like-for-like replacement. He is sure that the English club will find a suitable Salah replacement despite the low probability of signing Olise.
