Spurs’ Long-Serving Chairman Shocked by Potential Relegation

After stepping down as Executive Chairman following almost 25 years, with the Europa League triumph of Tottenham Hotspur still fresh in his memory, Daniel Levy is now watching with dismay as ‘his’ club teeters towards the second division.

«Not in a million years» would he have believed that Spurs could find themselves in a relegation battle this season, stated the 64-year-old.

Looking at the Premier League table, which places Tottenham just two points above the relegation zone with two games remaining in the season, Levy, who was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, feels a sense of ’emptiness’.

A scenario like the current one was never factored into his tenure, he added. «Relegation was something we never considered.» However, with eight points from their last four games, Spurs have managed to create some breathing room.

Can Spurs Secure Survival? Levy Remains Optimistic

The final opponents for Spurs are Chelsea and Everton. Their rivals, West Ham United, still have to face Newcastle United and Leeds United. Despite the tense situation, Levy expressed confidence, stating he is «optimistic that we will remain in the Premier League.»

His tenure saw the construction of the state-of-the-art Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the run to the 2019 Champions League final. Besides winning the League Cup in 2008, Tottenham under Levy has only won the Europa League in 2025. «What I would have hoped for would have been winning the Premier League and the Champions League – but that’s easier said than done.»
