Serie C Confirms Salary Cap Implementation Starting 2025/26

An assembly of Lega Pro, attended by the Serie C clubs, was held today in Florence. The central topic of the meeting, opened by the Lega Pro President Matteo Marani, was the Salary Cap. This measure will be adopted experimentally starting the 2025/26 sports season and definitively from the 2026-27 season.

Additionally, during the meeting, amendments to the Self-Regulation Code were approved, and the application criteria for the Zola Reform and championship admission procedures were illustrated.

Returning to the Salary Cap, this measure had been hoped for and announced by Marani last April. He stated: “The salary cap is one of the proposals I made for the new mandate. Today we had the first executive council meeting where we introduced the topic. In the coming weeks, we will hold permanent working groups specifically on this. We would like to implement it next season, meaning 2025/2026. We need to model it and also understand based on existing models around Europe; there are some functional and valid ones. In general, cost control is necessary, because otherwise, football implodes. You cannot have football without stable finances.”
