Luke Littler Achieves Sensational Comeback After Opponent Misses Five Match Darts
Darts superstar Luke Littler delivered a sensational comeback in the Premier League of Darts, a feat he himself had considered improbable.
In the final in Dublin, Littler, a two-time world champion, overturned a 0-5 deficit against Gerwyn Price, securing his second daily win of the current season.
"I have no idea how I managed that," the young Englishman stated afterward. "I won the first leg and had a bit of fun. Then I threw a 180, but Gezzy (Gerwyn Price) was set on tops, so I already waved goodbye [to the fans]."
Price, known as "The Iceman," astonishingly missed a total of five match darts on double-20. Littler capitalized on this unexpected opportunity with clinical precision, moving up to second place in the standings with 16 points. Jonny Clayton leads the table with 19 points, having defeated Luke Humphries on the seventh matchday. Josh Rock is still awaiting his first point after suffering a 0-6 whitewash against Price in the quarterfinals.
Darts: "That Doesn't Happen Often to Gerwyn Price"
The Welshman's collapse in the final was all the more astonishing given his strong form that day. "That doesn't happen often to Gerwyn Price. It just happened," explained a stunned Wayne Mardle. He added, "It's so unpredictable, it's such an unpredictable short format, and you can see that Luke enjoyed winning it."
Meanwhile, runner-up Gian van Veen missed the Premier League event in Dublin due to kidney stones. The pain had started on Sunday morning and significantly worsened. He communicated that he was in the hospital and hoped to return home soon.
