Jürgen Klopp's First DFB Squad: New Faces and Surprise Strikers?
Jürgen Klopp reveals his first squad as DFB coach on Thursday. Find out who might be a surprise inclusion, who could be dropped, and who is definitely out, according to SPOX.
Following a disappointing World Cup, the German national team faces a fresh start under new head coach Jürgen Klopp. The 59-year-old is tasked with sparking a turnaround and restoring the four-time world champions to their former glory. The first step comes with the upcoming international break, kicking off on September 24th with the first Nations League match against the Netherlands.
Klopp will announce his first squad on Thursday, September 17th, at 10 AM during a press conference at the DFB-Campus in Frankfurt. Some surprises are expected.
Germany's Nations League Squad: Which Players Might Jürgen Klopp Nominate and Which DFB Stars Will Be Missing?
Klopp mentioned 57 outfield players he is currently considering at his introductory press conference. "We had many good players at the World Cup who didn't play particularly well. It's far from bad, but in any case, it's improvable." The German squad is therefore likely to see significant changes. Klopp theoretically has a free hand in selections, but a maximum of 23 players can be used in each match.
Germany's Nations League Squad: Goalkeeper Situation
While the squad's official announcement is still pending for Thursday, initial information has reportedly leaked. According to Ajax coach Michel, goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen will return to the DFB team. The battle for the new number one is more open than it has been in a long time, following Manuel Neuer's second retirement after the World Cup.
Loris Karius is also being considered as a potential surprise candidate, following several strong performances in the Bundesliga for promoted side FC Schalke 04. Klopp knows the goalkeeper from their time together at Liverpool. Bayern's Jonas Urbig, Frankfurt's new signing Noah Atubolu, and Alexander Nübel from Besiktas also have hopes for a nomination.
Oliver Baumann, however, will apparently not be included, as reported by Welt. "Yes, I had contact with him. He will say everything else on Thursday," the Hoffenheim player recently stated.

|---|---|
| Marc-Andre ter Stegen | Ajax Amsterdam |

These include Jonathan Burkardt and Younes Ebnoutalib (both Eintracht Frankfurt), Karim Adeyemi (FC Barcelona), Kevin Schade (Leeds United), Brajan Gruda (RB Leipzig), and Tom Bischof (FC Bayern). None of them were at the World Cup.
For Ebnoutalib and Gruda, this would also be their national team debut. Lennart Karl, who was originally nominated for the World Cup but had to withdraw at short notice due to injury, is also very likely to be included in the DFB squad again.

Nicolo Tresoldi from Club Brugge, who still has to decide between Germany and Italy, could be considered, as could Schalke's Soufiane El-Faouzi, who could also play for Morocco. Philipp Treu (SC Freiburg) and Anton Kade (FC Augsburg) also have hopes.
RB Leipzig's midfield star Assan Ouedraogo, however, will definitely be absent due to injury (shoulder).
