Agent Connection a Key Advantage? Barcelona Reportedly Targets Chelsea Star
FC Barcelona is reportedly showing interest in Chelsea's versatile attacker, Pedro Neto, who could address multiple needs in their offensive lineup.
The Catalan giants have reportedly identified the adaptable Pedro Neto as a potential target to bolster their attacking flanks for the upcoming season.
Barcelona's strategic planning includes acquiring a central striker, a center-back, and a winger. Neto's ability to play across both offensive wings and centrally makes him an ideal versatile option, potentially serving as an excellent alternative to players like Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.
A favorable aspect for Barcelona is the strong relationship between Neto's agent, Jorge Mendes, and the club, particularly with sporting director Deco. While the 26-year-old Portuguese international is rumored to have a release clause, Barcelona is currently monitoring the situation rather than actively pursuing a transfer.
Laporta Expresses Doubts Over Mega-Transfers for Barcelona
It remains uncertain if the financially constrained club can genuinely afford a transfer of such magnitude in the near future. Club president Joan Laporta has openly expressed his reservations about major expenditures.
According to Laporta, securing contract extensions for key players is akin to making new signings. He also suggested that the club's primary focus might instead be on identifying a successor for Robert Lewandowski.
Haaland's Agent Expresses 'Great Admiration for Barcelona'
With Robert Lewandowski's contract expiring in the summer, potential replacements – should he not extend his stay – include Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid or Erling Haaland from Manchester City.
Both players would command significant fees, and specifically concerning Haaland, there's little indication he intends to join coach Hansi Flick's squad next season.
Addressing the speculation, Haaland's agent, Rafaela Pimenta, stated, 'We hold great respect and admiration for Barcelona, however, there has been absolutely no contact – neither with Erling Haaland nor with the Barcelona club management – concerning any potential transfers.'
Pimenta elaborated, 'The player extended his contract several months ago. He is extremely content at Manchester City, where things are going exceptionally well for him, and there's genuinely nothing for us to discuss regarding a transfer while his situation at Manchester City remains so positive.'
Pedro Neto Under Contract with Chelsea Until 2031
Meanwhile, Pedro Neto is also committed to Chelsea on a long-term deal, having signed a seven-year contract following his €60 million transfer from Wolverhampton in the summer of 2024. This season, Neto has impressive statistics, tallying ten goals and six assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea.
