The Professional Women`s Serie A Division Assembly took place in Rome at the FIGC headquarters, in the `Paolo Rossi` hall. Present at the assembly were Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, FIGC President Gabriele Gravina, and Lega Serie A President Ezio Maria Simonelli.

Federica Cappelletti, President of the Women`s Serie A Division, highlighted the significance of the event: `The presence of a Government representative at a Women`s Serie A assembly is a historic moment. It`s a sign of support and confirms that actions can follow words. This marks a turning point, the beginning of a journey to be undertaken together with institutions, fostering closer dialogue that can lead Italian women`s football to previously unexpected goals. We are experiencing a period of significant growth, thanks to the institutions and the Federation, which has given us the opportunity for constant and concrete development. We thank the Government for their support shown in recent years and months, with a commitment made verbally and then realized with the refinancing of the fund for professionalism.`

FIGC President Gabriele Gravina added, `I am pleased with the presence of the Minister for Sport and Youth at today`s assembly and the Government`s sensitivity towards women`s football. The dialogue with Minister Abodi is an added value because he is well aware of football dynamics, as well as the rules, regulations, plans, and needs of the entire football movement. Today`s assembly is important, linked to both sustainability and competitiveness. I am happy with the evolution of the entire women`s football system, which should be grateful to you clubs because the sacrifice of today`s clubs is the most significant. A movement that grows thanks to the leadership, but has a very strong base. There is a new conception of the world of football, and as a Federation, we will continue to support this development by guaranteeing with great conviction the commitments made in previous seasons.`

Minister Andrea Abodi stated, `To grow, women`s football needs a relationship that is not sporadic but systematic. Subsidies will not solve the problems. We will support football with projects and resources so that the women`s movement becomes self-sustaining. In the assembly, some ideas were discussed concerning the new law on audiovisual rights, because professional football does not distinguish between men and women, and also a measure for tax credits, with all the difficulties involved in defining it. I am confident that a specific discussion can be held with the Ministry of Economy and Finance regarding tax credits related to women`s football, infrastructure, and youth sectors.`

President Ezio Simonelli declared, `It was a pleasure to participate in the assembly of the Women`s Serie A Division. I thank President Cappelletti for the invitation and President Gravina for the hospitality. It was a valuable opportunity for discussion between our organizations, made even more significant by the presence of Minister Abodi, to reiterate the importance of promoting and supporting the growth of a movement that deserves increasing attention and investment.`

2025-26 COMPETITIONS – The Assembly approved the format for the 2025-26 Women`s Serie A season. Considering the reform of the women`s championships, with the Serie A expanding from 10 to 12 teams and Serie B from 16 to 14, the 2025-26 Women`s Serie A will be played in a single round-robin format with home and away matches, for a total of 22 match days.

The assembly also defined the format for the 2025-26 Coppa Italia. The competition will begin with a preliminary single-leg round involving newly promoted Serie B teams, followed by a first round involving Serie B clubs and the bottom four Serie A teams (ranking to be published later), and a second round where the other 8 Serie A teams will enter. Quarter-finals and semi-finals, as in this season, will be played over two legs.

Simultaneously, the establishment of a new competition was defined. This tournament will be played with a compact format at the beginning of the season, before the league starts, and will involve all 12 Serie A teams, divided into three groups of four teams. The top team from each group and the best runner-up will qualify for the Final Four.

All the changes approved today by the Women`s Serie A assembly will be examined during the next Federal Council meeting.
