Serge Gnabry’s Bizarre Celebration: Bayern Star Wears Goretzka Boxers After Freiburg Win

Following FC Bayern Munich’s dramatic 3-2 victory against Freiburg, Serge Gnabry was seen celebrating in a most unusual manner: sporting boxer shorts adorned with images of teammate Leon Goretzka’s face. A towel with Goretzka’s likeness later appeared. The peculiar spectacle left many wondering about its meaning.

After securing a last-gasp 3-2 win against SC Freiburg on the 28th Bundesliga matchday, a Bayern player might have felt invincible – a feeling that would soon be tested by Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.

However, the fan who brought these humorous garments to the Freiburg stadium likely found even greater joy in the late victory, as the items sparked widespread amusement among the Bayern players and supporters.

After a Bayern player, who had just scored, put his jersey back on, teammate Tom Bischof appeared with white boxer shorts profusely printed with the smiling face of Leon Goretzka.

Goretzka politely declined to wear the distinctly quirky yet amusing garment. Ultimately, Serge Gnabry donned them, much to the delight of his teammates and the Bayern fans present.

Later, a large towel featuring Goretzka’s face and bare torso also made an appearance, drawing hearty laughter from Goretzka himself. The exact intention behind the stunt remained somewhat ambiguous, though players later clarified it wasn’t a prank or a strange declaration of affection for the midfielder set to depart in the summer. Instead, a Bayern fan had brought the unusual textiles to the stadium. Upon seeing them, a Bayern player borrowed the items and presented them to his teammates, leading to Gnabry’s unique fashion statement.

Coach Vincent Kompany Prefers Focus on Real Madrid

At the subsequent press conference, coach Vincent Kompany was also asked about the bizarre fan gear. Laughing, he responded to inquiries about the story behind it, stating, «I have absolutely no idea,» before playfully adding, «You’re welcome to ask me about Real Madrid.»

Joshua Kimmich, too, couldn’t offer an explanation for the «why.» However, he confirmed that this colourful attire wouldn’t become a permanent fixture in Bayern’s celebrations. «I believe the shorts were returned. I think the fan wanted them back. That was important to him,» Kimmich explained. Quite understandable, as the item had certainly enjoyed its moment of fame.
