The project for the construction of a new stadium in the San Siro area is progressing. Milan and Inter are still awaiting a response regarding the DocFap, the feasibility document for alternative project designs, submitted to the City Council with a new stadium proposal to replace the Meazza.
The Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, addressed the matter again in the City Council recently. According to Il Giornale, Milan edition, Sala stated, `The City Council will not bear the demolition costs of the Meazza. If the clubs buy the stadium, what they decide to do with it, whether to renovate or partially demolish it, is their issue,` referring to Inter and Milan`s intentions. The Mayor added, `We can negotiate the remediation expenses.`
He continued, `Currently, we are unsure of what lies beneath the surface, but we hope that remediation efforts will not be extensive, as it is not an area with a significant industrial history. I am not overly concerned. Compared to the initial plans, the new stadium will have more than 70,000 seats, and the requirement of 50 percent green space is being met. Will a portion of the old stadium be preserved? It`s a compromise between the initial demands of the teams and those of the heritage authority. We also discussed this possibility with the Minister of Culture, Giuli, and they expressed satisfaction at the table.`
