Sabatini on Motta’s Juventus Stint: “Handling Outcast Players Was First Major Blunder”

On his YouTube channel, Sandro Sabatini discussed Thiago Motta`s work at Juventus, considering the club`s choice to pursue Igor Tudor. According to the journalist, the ambitious project, as Danilo called it, was supposed to last three years but ended after eight months. Motta`s dismissal will cost Juventus around 25 million euros, including his staff`s salaries.

Sabatini notes that after the defeat in the Italian Super Cup, Giuntoli began to sound out some of Motta`s colleagues, either directly or through intermediaries. Following losses to Atalanta and Fiorentina, Motta isolated himself and stopped listening to advice. Strategic errors included his post-Juventus-Empoli remarks, which were a turning point, suggesting the team wasn`t being built but rather dismantled. Sabatini emphasizes that Motta made significant strategic mistakes, starting with his decisions regarding players excluded from the squad. These choices, in Sabatini`s view, were the first major misstep.

Furthermore, Sabatini challenges the narrative of a rejuvenated, younger team, arguing that apart from the goalkeeper, the average age hadn`t significantly decreased. He also mentions the perplexing situation involving Danilo. Sabatini concludes by pointing out that Juventus has only sacked one coach mid-season in the last 50 years.
