AS Roma is accelerating the creation of its B team, provisionally named Roma Next Gen, following the path of clubs like Juventus, Milan, Atalanta, and soon Inter. The project, which has been under consideration for a long time but never materialized, has now become an absolute priority for the Friedkin ownership. The primary goal is to register the second team in Serie C within the next two years, aiming to develop young talents from the youth academy and prevent promising players from leaving the club.
Several indicators signal this significant shift: the club has initiated a restructuring of its youth sector, marked by the departure of Marco Albergati (scouting manager since 2019) and the introduction of new personnel such as Roberto Vichi and Gianmarco Migliorati, arriving from the women`s football division. Furthermore, the return of Federico Guidi to a coaching role, after his experience at Milan and having been sought after by Serie C clubs, strongly supports the concrete likelihood of the second team being formed.
Market activity also points in this direction: the signings of Antonio Arena and Romero Corredera, both possessing experience in Serie C, suggest that Roma is assembling a squad with a view to competing in a professional league. The estimated initial investment for the project is between 15 and 20 million euros, with annual operating costs projected at 3 million euros. This expenditure is considered sustainable, particularly once the club navigates its current UEFA financial constraints.
