Renica: «Nel calcio eterno dilemma tra spettacolo e concretezza, se ne parlava anche nella Juve di Allegri»

Former Napoli defender Alessandro Renica spoke to Radio Marte, discussing the Scudetto race between Inter and Napoli, specifically focusing on Antonio Conte`s team`s form. His comments address the long-standing debate in football.

Regarding the debate about Napoli`s perceived lack of attractive play: «This is the perpetual discussion in football,» Renica stated, «the choice between aesthetics and effectiveness. It was also a topic concerning Allegri`s Juventus. I agree with Conte`s view: winning is essential in football, and those who achieve it deserve it, regardless of whether they played beautifully. Football isn`t a circus for pure entertainment; it`s something else.»

«Furthermore,» he added, «I disagree with those who claim Napoli played poorly against Lecce or generally throughout the season. It`s unrealistic to expect dominance for the full 90 minutes; opponents exist, emotions play a part, and many factors influence a match`s flow. Napoli played significant and impressive matches against teams like Atalanta or Juventus. But sometimes you just have to grind out a win.»

«Napoli rightfully sits at the top,» Renica continued. «Conte has successfully instilled his winning mentality in the players, resulting in a noticeable determination on the field – which is far from guaranteed.»

«De Laurentiis also deserves praise. He avoided locker-room issues, brought in Conte and Oriali, and signed impactful players like Lukaku, McTominay, and Buongiorno. The club`s management was commendable.»

«Conte has been exceptional, doing immense work on the defense – something I noticed early on. He`s erased the memory of the previous season when Napoli conceded embarrassing goals with players seemingly unrecognizable. If Napoli is at the top, it`s also because they have strong players, let`s not forget that. Eight of the starting eleven were part of the Scudetto-winning squad.»
