Real Madrid Terminates Contract with Midfielder After 16 Titles

Real Madrid continues its squad overhaul following a trophy-less season.

As announced by the Spanish football record holder on Friday, the contract with midfielder Dani Ceballos (29) has been dissolved ‘by mutual agreement’ one year before its expiration.

Ceballos moved to Madrid nine years ago and won 16 titles with the «Royal» club, though he played a supporting role in the past season. Spanish media have linked Ceballos with Dutch record champions Ajax Amsterdam.

Under the returning coach Jose Mourinho, Real aims to challenge FC Barcelona domestically and re-establish itself among the powerhouses internationally in the upcoming season.

Three players have already been signed this summer. Spanish European champion Marc Cucurella joins from FC Chelsea for 55 million euros and is expected to solidify the left defensive flank.

Defenders Ibrahima Konate (FC Liverpool) and midfielder Bernardo Silva (Manchester City) are also moving to Madrid on free transfers.
