A new rule regarding offside decisions will be implemented in the Premier League starting April 12th.

Following its introduction in Italy in early 2023, the Premier League is also adopting “semi-automated offside” technology. This system, already tested in England recently, will officially be used in the English top league, as announced by the Premier League.

Below is the official statement from the Premier League:

“The Premier League will introduce semi-automated offside technology on Saturday, April 12th (Matchweek 32). This follows non-live testing in the Premier League and live operations in the FA Cup this season.”

“Semi-automated offside technology automates key elements of the offside decision-making process to support the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). It provides quicker virtual offside line placement, using optical player tracking, and generates virtual graphics to enhance the stadium and broadcast experience for fans.”
