Francesco Farioli has officially signed a two-year contract with FC Porto, taking over the managerial role from the recently dismissed Argentinian Martin Anselmi. The Portuguese football club confirmed the appointment today.
The 36-year-old Italian coach, who hails from Tuscany, became available in mid-May after terminating his contract with Ajax Amsterdam. His departure followed a disappointing end to the Dutch championship season, where Ajax failed to secure the title despite holding a nine-point lead with only five matches left.
Prior to his stint at Ajax, Farioli managed OGC Nice in France during the 2023-24 season. Porto`s president, André Villas-Boas, introduced Farioli to the press, describing him as a “young but extremely ambitious coach” possessing an “explosive career trajectory in European football.”
During his presentation, Farioli conveyed his strong desire to “restore Porto to its rightful place.” The club finished third in the Portuguese league last season, ending the campaign eleven points adrift of champions Sporting CP.
