Former Juventus defender Sergio Porrini shared his thoughts on various topics in a recent interview:
What do you think about the possibility of Juventus continuing with Tudor?
Ultimately, he did what was asked of him: arriving in a difficult situation, lacking results and identity, and reaching fourth place. This was the only objective to save the season, because at Juventus you can never be satisfied. He achieved it, credit to him, and therefore achieving the goal makes it perhaps right that he is given the opportunity to continue. Then, one must consider the economic aspect and the possibility that the big players people thought might arrive might have other ideas.
Who would you choose as Juventus coach if there were another change of direction? Gasperini if he were available?
Gasperini is the coach who, along with Conte, I consider the best among Italians. He`s someone who can truly have a huge impact on the team regardless of the players because he`s capable of getting more than 100% from everyone. If available, I would always bring Gasp to the Bianconeri. We`ll have to see, there are many rumors to form an idea.
What do you think about the possible resignation of Giuntoli?
Since arriving at Juve, he hasn`t been able to work as he did previously. This season there`s been an impression of great managerial confusion. I wouldn`t be surprised by his resignation. The presence of the club wasn`t felt. We know very well how interventions from above rarely happened at Juventus; back then, there was a very solid managerial structure.
More on Gasperini: What about the Roma hypothesis?
If he stays in Bergamo, it`s better for Atalanta, but whoever takes him should know that he needs time. They would get a coach capable of achieving great results if given minimal time, interpreting a series of ideas different from other coaches. Therefore, one shouldn`t base judgment on any potential initial negative results.
Who would you see doing well at Atalanta in a potential post-Gasperini era?
Italiano above all. He demonstrated it by doing very well at Fiorentina, then he went to Bologna and continued to do well. And we know how difficult it is to succeed someone who has done well and perform equally well, as he did after Motta. I would like that. However, if Gasperini were to leave, I would struggle to find a truly suitable name. Whoever arrives would risk facing significant difficulty. It`s a proven context, but shaped by a coach completely different from others. Just look at one aspect: many great players at Atalanta have struggled elsewhere. My impression is that after Gasperini, anyone will struggle.
