Pierpaolo Marino on Napoli’s Scudetto Path and Serie A Teams’ Fatigue

Former Napoli executive Pierpaolo Marino shared his perspective on Radio Marte regarding the current moment for Napoli, with the Scudetto title now very close and significant anticipation surrounding the match against Cagliari. Marino described his personal feeling as a mix of sweetness and anxiety.

He emphasized the crucial need to secure a win against Cagliari, ideally in the first half, to alleviate tension for Neapolitan fans and send a clear message (referencing a slightly cryptic mention about Lake Como). He labeled it a “unique” game, one of those decisive encounters where the team must enter the field with an exclusive mindset: “just us, there`s no room for others.”

Marino explained that these types of challenges are atypical because they are worth a Scudetto. Napoli must approach the game understanding they cannot afford a loss but must instead claim the reward for their arduous efforts over 37 matches. Given that Cagliari lacks significant league objectives, Napoli`s primary concern should be themselves, despite their clear technical superiority. However, he believes any potential self-doubt must be overcome by the immense support from the fans, who will push the team relentlessly.

Marino also commented on the general state of fatigue in Serie A, noting that “Inter, Atalanta, Juventus, and others have all struggled in this phase of the championship.” He added, possibly with a touch of irony or a specific context, that “Only Como is doing well, but they rested for almost the entire first half of the season.”

Finally, regarding the rumors surrounding Antonio Conte`s future, Marino suggested they should be postponed until after the season concludes to avoid causing disruption. While acknowledging that such speculation is common editorial practice, especially during tense title races which he sees as positive for Serie A, he considers these rumors a distraction. They might sometimes be strategic, but they pull focus away from what matters. The only future to concentrate on, he concluded, is the immediate one – the next 48 hours; the focus must remain strictly on the present.
