Panorama – Cassazione, niente risarcimento per il Bologna: classifica non falsata da Calciopoli

`Panorama

According to Giovanni Capuano in his article for Panorama.it, the Cassation Court has ruled that Bologna`s league position in 2006 was not falsified by the Calciopoli scandal, marking a milestone in the Calciopoli saga. The Supreme Court judges have closed the case initiated by the then Bologna owner Giuseppe Grazzoni Frascara. The ruling confirms the decision of the Naples court.

It states that there is no evidence that the sports frauds, whether carried out or attempted, investigated in Calciopoli, significantly altered the sporting outcome of the 2004-2005 season. This was the season before the scandal broke, which led to Juventus being stripped of two league titles and relegated to Serie B.

This is written in black and white twenty years after the investigation that divided Italian football, in a ruling by the Supreme Court of Cassation (section III Civil, order number 6116). On March 7, 2025, it definitively closed the disputes opened by Bologna and Brescia, and by the former owner of the Bologna club, Francesco Gazzoni Frascara, seeking civil damages.
