It`s official: Club Leon will not participate in the Club World Cup scheduled for June in the United States. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected the appeal filed by the Mexican club against their non-admission, citing non-compliance with co-ownership rules. CAS also announced that the request from Costa Rican club Alajuelense to fill the vacant spot left by Leon has been denied, and now FIFA will determine the final participating club.
Through a statement, the international federation (FIFA) has determined that the final slot will be awarded to the winner of a `playoff` match between Los Angeles FC, the runner-up of the 2023 Concacaf Champions League, and Mexico`s Club America, which is the highest-ranked Concacaf team in the FIFA Club World Cup rankings. The date and location of the match will be officially announced later, although some sources suggest the game could be played on May 31st in California.
