NFL Record Contract: Jaxon Smith-Njigba Becomes Highest-Paid Wide Receiver

The Seattle Seahawks and superstar Jaxon Smith-Njigba have agreed on a groundbreaking contract extension. The reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year is set to earn an estimated $168.6 million (approximately €145 million) over the next four years.

This agreement makes the 24-year-old the highest-paid wide receiver in league history. With an average annual salary of $42.15 million, he surpasses Ja’Marr Chase, who previously held the record at $40 million per year. More than $120 million of the new contract is guaranteed to Smith-Njigba.

Including a previously exercised fifth-year option, the two-time Pro-Bowler Smith-Njigba is now tied to the Seattle Seahawks until the 2031 season. The Seahawks, who drafted Smith-Njigba 20th overall in 2023, also secured the services of star left tackle Charles Cross with a contract extension.

The 24-year-old Smith-Njigba had an outstanding performance in 2025, setting personal career highs with 119 receptions, 1,793 yards, and 10 touchdowns, earning him an All-Pro selection. In the season’s three playoff games, he contributed 17 receptions for 199 yards and two touchdowns.
