Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon had an interview with The Guardian newspaper, here’s some of what he had to say.
“In my head there is a last stop sign, a maximum limit, which is June 2023, this is the maximum, really the maximum.”
“But I could also stop playing in four months, because I learned that nothing it is certain in life.”
“They say that when you reach my age, the decline comes all of a sudden, from one moment to the next, it just comes.”
“I don’t think so, what I do is that I listen to my feelings and they don’t tell me that I’ll suddenly collapse.”
Relationship with Pirlo?
“I remember watching him train and thinking ‘god exists!'”
“My friendship with Pirlo is very old, I’ve known him and Gattuso since 1993.”
“Of course I call him Mister now, in front of everyone. He’s my coach, it’s a question of roles, respect, intelligence.”
“Then when we leave the pitch and go out together, we can be Gigi and Andrea.”
Coming back to Juve?
“I strongly believe in destiny, so when Juve offered me the chance to return, I thought: ‘Madonna!’.”
“You never know, maybe there is a reason behind this, one last great story to write. And a little bit of ego that we all have.”
If you could give any advice to your younger self, what would it be?
“I remember how I was and I know how I am, living the experiences on your own skin is necessary, I feel I needed to ‘ruin’ me.”
“If a person never gets ruined and he never pays the price for this, in my opinion he doesn’t really understand things.”
“Making mistakes is very important, and paying for them is even more important. even reflecting, it forces you to look at all the nuances.”
