AC Milan appears to be making significant progress in its search for a new Sporting Director, with Igli Tare reportedly emerging as the designated figure for the role. The former Lazio executive will immediately face several critical issues, including contract renewals that have been put on hold in recent weeks.
Matteo Moretto, a journalist for Relevo, discussed these situations on Fabrizio Romano`s YouTube channel. According to Moretto, “One of the first issues Tare will need to tackle is the numerous contract renewals and various situations currently stalled at Casa Milan.”
Moretto specifically detailed the situation regarding Christian Pulisic: “One such case is Christian Pulisic`s. While his contract isn`t expiring soon—it runs until 2027 with an option for 2028—Milan has been negotiating his renewal for several months. The parties had nearly finalized the agreement, reaching a verbal understanding on figures, salary adjustments, and other terms. However, at a certain point, Pulisic requested time to fully understand Milan`s sporting project, specifically regarding the Sporting Director and coach roles. He seeks assurances about the club`s future direction.”
“Pulisic`s agent is quite active and has offered the player both in Italy and abroad. However, Pulisic is definitely under contract with Milan, and in my opinion, once the situation clarifies, a contract extension could still be reached. But as of now, his renewal is on standby, as are those of Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez for different reasons. Tare will need to resolve these situations,” Moretto added.
Separately, regarding Theo Hernandez, interest from Juventus reportedly emerged yesterday.
