In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Alvaro Morata discussed his exit from Milan. He stated: “A lot happened, some things moved too quickly and were difficult for me to handle, but ultimately, I`m content.”
Question: You joined Milan as a European champion, what unfolded?
Answer: “Yes, and I believe we played some strong matches; things weren`t as bad as they appeared or were reported. However, certain things occurred internally that I had never encountered in my career, and I prefer to keep those private. I didn`t feel comfortable anymore, and rather than become an issue, I decided to leave.”
Question: What exactly was the issue?
Answer: “That`s something I cannot disclose. Abrupt shifts are never simple. If you begin with a certain mindset and then drastically alter course, it might work out perfectly or it might not. Perhaps the new direction taken at the season`s start required more time to take hold; they opted to make a change, and there`s little more to add. Actually, there is one point: it`s false, as I`ve read, that I regretted my decision. Never. It was an honor to wear a historic shirt like Milan`s.”
Question: Have you been in touch with Tare and Allegri?
Answer: “No, or at least, not concerning their new roles. I talk to Max [Allegri] frequently because of our bond. I met Tare a couple of times socially at dinner with friends, but nothing beyond that. I`m pleased for them and for Milan; they are top professionals, and their recruitment suggests Milan is eager to start winning again and regain its prominence. I hope they achieve great success. As for my own situation, I have no news.”
