Montezemolo: Juventus Made Almost Every Mistake

Speaking to Gazzetta, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo shared his view, stating, “From the outside, I get the impression that they have made almost every mistake possible.” He recounted a joke he made to a colleague at the airport after John Elkann had stated the “new Juve” would rely completely on Giuntoli. Montezemolo had quipped that they “would have been better off hiring De Laurentiis.” He added, “I`ve never been fond of pre-announcements; they simply don`t work.” Regarding Thiago Motta, Montezemolo claimed Motta had an agreement with Juventus for a considerable time and the deal was already settled. He felt it “would have been better to be clear from the start, sincere,” suggesting Motta “would have done better to say he perhaps had other reasons.”

Montezemolo continued by saying he “didn`t like how he (presumably referring to someone involved in the Motta situation or the club`s actions) behaved towards the city and beyond.” Shifting focus, he then stated, “Having said that, congratulations must be given to [Vincenzo] Italiano, the club, and the players [at Bologna].” He expressed surprise at Bologna`s success, asking, “Who would have ever predicted that this would be another such significant year for them? For me, no one.” He lauded Bologna`s performance, noting that Italiano “is showing attractive and effective football,” and their “players are consistently proving themselves capable.” He concluded by emphasizing, “Bologna is a good place to be, where one grows well, and this season demonstrates that.”
