Former Juventus director Luciano Moggi recently appeared on the Elleradio program `Tutto il mio calcio e non solo`, hosted by Ezio Luzzi. He was asked if AS Roma could have won the Scudetto had Claudio Ranieri been appointed earlier in the season.
“No, Roma wouldn`t have won the Scudetto if Ranieri had arrived earlier,” Moggi stated. “It`s often easier to take charge of a team mid-season than to start at the beginning. If he had started from the outset, he probably would have done worse. However, he is a sensible, credible coach.”
Moggi continued, “Getting a team back on track after having had too many managers during the season means something has changed within the players` spirit. The dressing room has many foreign players, and it requires someone who knows how to manage it. I see Roma applying themselves in matches now in a way they never did before. As for the next coach? I don`t make predictions.”
