“Few results, but San Siro is full. Milan leads Serie A in attendance,” headlines La Gazzetta dello Sport this morning. It`s a paradox: despite a season below expectations, the Rossoneri are even surpassing league leaders Inter in stadium attendance.
Despite being ninth in the standings and having only seven wins (just 43.75% of the total) in 16 home games, Milan`s fans have been the most present at the stadium in Serie A. Specifically, the average attendance at the San Siro for Milan`s home matches is 71,643, making them the only team in the league to exceed 70,000. It`s striking to note this considering Inter, on the other side of Naviglio, is competing for the Scudetto but has an average attendance of 69,942. This is the first time since post-Covid that Milan has surpassed their cousins in average stadium attendance. It`s quite unusual for this to happen in a season that is, to say the least, not very exciting.
Looking at the average attendance ranking, Roma is in third place with 61,986 attendees. They are followed by Napoli (50,797), Lazio (42,376), Juventus (40,310), Genoa (40,310), Bologna (27,419), Lecce (25,754), Lecce (24,816), Verona (24,816), Torino (22,835), Atalanta (22,658), Udinese (21,714), Fiorentina (20,265), Parma (18,863), with Cagliari in sixteenth place (16,078), then Empoli (11,278), Monza (11,062), Como (10,275), and Venezia (10,242).
However, focusing solely on the stadium fill percentage, as reported by `la rosea` (Gazzetta dello Sport), Cagliari leads the way: averaging 16,089 attendees with a stadium capacity of 16,365.
