Mauro on Gazzetta: “Juventus, Total Failure, Too Much Power to Giuntoli”

In a Gazzetta interview, Massimo Mauro delivers a harsh assessment of Juventus, stating, “A single person in command is not the Juventus way; even a figure like Boniperti had Trapattoni by his side. While I would have dismissed Motta earlier, the blame doesn`t fall on him alone. The entire project has proven to be a complete failure.”

Mauro acknowledges the initial summer vision of Giuntoli and Thiago Motta to pursue victory with a different style of play, but emphasizes, “its execution has been a total failure. The key takeaway is that Juventus needs to better respect its history. Sarri won the Scudetto and was dismissed after just one year; Pirlo was sacked after securing fourth place and winning both the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa. Now, Thiago hasn`t even finished the season. Too much authority has been concentrated in one person. Giuntoli has effectively held complete control of Juventus in recent months. Even Boniperti didn`t operate in isolation, and I speak from personal experience. He was a president who frequently consulted with Trapattoni and us players. Juventus has always functioned this way; never has a single individual wielded absolute power.”

Looking ahead, Mauro insists, “Regardless of who the future coach is, the club needs reinforcement. Juventus is Antonio Conte`s home, and I certainly believe he would be a good fit. Conte has demonstrated his ability to achieve results across Italy and Europe. Tudor is a coach who, in my view, has consistently performed well when taking over mid-season, and he understands Juventus. Roberto Mancini, a proven winner everywhere he`s been, would also be an appealing choice. I remain optimistic because Juventus can`t possibly fare worse than this. To Tudor, I would emphasize one crucial point: ensure the players are held accountable.”
