May 31st is circled in red for Inter fans, marking the date of the Champions League final in London against Paris Saint-Germain. For the Nerazzurri, this represents a significant historical chance to potentially lift the European trophy once more, fifteen years after their last triumph. Following the final defeat against Manchester City in 2023, coach Simone Inzaghi now has another opportunity to crown his European campaign with victory.
On the opposing side, PSG will have a notable supporter in Blaise Matuidi. The former French midfielder, also a popular figure in Italy due to his successful spell at Juventus where he won three Scudetti, a Coppa Italia, and a Supercoppa, openly expressed his backing for Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 75th FIFA Congress at the CONMEBOL headquarters in Asuncion, Matuidi underlined the importance of the final for the city of Paris. He commented, The entire city is buzzing. Experiencing a Champions League final is something extraordinary for Paris. PSG handled Kylian`s departure well; he`s doing great things in Madrid, but Dembélé has excellently taken on his role, having an extraordinary season. He always had the talent, but now he`s become decisive – that`s the real leap in quality.
Matuidi, whose own journey with PSG never went beyond the quarter-finals (he left in 2017, before their 2020 final appearance), knows that overcoming a top-level opponent is essential to win the cup. He stated, Inter is a very solid, well-organized team in the best Italian tradition. However, they are also capable of being dangerous in attack, as seen against Barcelona. It will be a great match, and naturally, I hope Paris wins.
