Marotta Reflects on Heavy Champions League Final Loss to PSG

Inter president Giuseppe Marotta commented on the significant defeat in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. Speaking to Sky Sport, he stated: “It was a negative evening; the opponent completely overwhelmed us in every aspect. The defeat was clear, but this should not diminish the value of our season. We played against a very strong team. We are disappointed with the performance; it was a decidedly negative evening.”

When asked how the overall judgment on the season is affected, Marotta replied: “Reaching this final evening was extremely difficult, and we achieved it with great merit. Tonight, we appeared very fragile, but I want to thank the players and the coach for the journey they completed.”

Regarding whether the evaluation of coach Simone Inzaghi might change, he firmly stated: “Absolutely no change in evaluation. We have already planned to meet with Inzaghi next week. He has another year on his contract and has consistently demonstrated his capability. A single negative evening does not erase all his accomplishments and merits.”

Addressing the question of whether budgets limit progress, Marotta commented: “Italy is no longer a paradise for football. Our league is in a transitional phase; the best players are at risk of leaving, attracted by higher wages elsewhere. Clubs like PSG can manage virtually unlimited budgets. However, this should not serve as an alibi. With the competence of coaches and the skill of players, we still aim to play a leading role.”
