Liverpool is now just one point away from mathematically clinching their 20th national league title. Following Arsenal`s draw last night, they currently sit 12 points behind the leaders with only four matches remaining in the season. The Reds could potentially celebrate winning the championship as early as Sunday when they play at home against Tottenham.
The countdown for Arne Slot`s squad, who have maintained a solid first place position since the end of last year, has been ongoing for weeks. This upcoming match against Spurs, fierce rivals of Arsenal, could finally be the moment of their coronation. At Anfield, simply avoiding defeat will be sufficient for Liverpool to match Manchester United`s record of 20 league championships won.
Conversely, if Liverpool were to lose, the only scenario that could potentially delay the Reds` celebrations would be an Arsenal victory against Bournemouth on Saturday. However, even in that case, Liverpool would still only require one point against Chelsea in the following week`s match. In a purely theoretical sense, Arsenal could still win the Premier League, but only through goal difference (as they are currently 10 goals behind the Reds), and this would require them to win all their remaining games while Liverpool loses all of theirs.
